Buying used should not be an investigation
Most of the work in buying a second-hand car is working out what you are not being told. We decided to remove that problem rather than compete on it.
Why we exist
A used car is only worth what you know about it.
Two identical cars, same year, same mileage, same colour. One has a service record you can follow end to end and an MOT history with nothing hidden in it. The other has a gap somewhere around 2019 that nobody wants to talk about.
They are not the same car and they should not be the same price — but on most forecourts you cannot tell which is which until you have committed to the trip, and sometimes not until after you have committed to the car.
So we put the whole record on the listing. All of it, on every car, before you ask. It costs us the cars that would not stand up to it, which we consider the point rather than the price.
Four things we do differently
- We publish what other dealers redact
- Every listing carries the complete MOT history — every advisory, every fail, since 2005. Not a summary, not the highlights. If a car has had a rough patch you will read about it before you drive two hours to see it.
- The price is the price
- No admin fee, no documentation fee, no 'preparation charge' discovered at signing, and the car costs the same whether you pay cash or finance. Extras — longer cover, delivery beyond the free area, GAP — exist if you want them and are quoted before you commit, never bundled in.
- We turn cars away
- Roughly a third of what we look at we don't buy — wrong history, a gap in the record we can't account for, or a check that comes back murky. That car being cheap is not a reason; it is usually the reason it is cheap.
- Prepared before it is listed
- Serviced, MOT'd with real time left, tyres and brakes to a published minimum, HPI cleared and fully valeted — before the photographs, not after you ask. Every measurement is written down on the PDI sheet that comes with the car, so the condition on the day you bought it is a record rather than a memory.
Preparation
What happens before a car reaches the listing
Every car goes through all of this. Not the ones we think need it — all of them, because the ones that look like they don’t need it are exactly the ones where something gets missed.
- Provenance
- HPI check against write-off, theft and outstanding finance. We show you the result.
- Mechanical
- Serviced, safety-checked and undersealed, with the inspection sheet signed and handed over. Anything unsafe is fixed before it is listed.
- MOT
- Fresh test, and we won't list a car with less than six months on it.
- Consumables
- Tyres above 3mm all round, brakes above 50%, fluids and filters to schedule.
- History
- Service record verified against the stamps, the invoices and the MOT mileages.
- Presentation
- Machine polish and a full valet — inside the boot lip and under the seats too.
Where we sell
We sell across London, Essex, Kent, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Bedfordshire, and deliver anywhere in mainland UK on a covered transporter. Because the whole record is on the listing, buying one of our cars from the other end of the country involves no more guesswork than buying it from ten minutes away.
By appointment, and we deliver nationwide. Book a slot and the car is ready and waiting just for you.
